The Geometry behind Snakes_and_Dragons

A different approach to snakes and dragons

Dragons and snakes are among the most popular tattoo images in the world. Renowned tattoo artist Sören Sangkuhl approaches these iconic creatures in a very different way, and in The Geometry behind Snakes and Dragons, he shares insight into his painstaking techniques.

Finding beauty in every part

Sören places equal importance on every aspect of the creature; not just the head, face and eyes. In his designs, each claw, horn, and scale are considered, and he seeks to inject expression into even the smallest detail. In this book, he shares a wide range of his designs; from the initial sketches through to the final image. It’s essentially a masterclass in how a tattoo evolves, and how every part of the snake or dragon is used to create a dynamic, aesthetically pleasing final design.

Dedication to detail

The Geometry behind Snakes and Dragons is the result of over 1,000 hours of sketching and took Sören 22 weeks to complete. Like many great artists, he didn’t use digital tools or any technical assistance to produce the images. Neither did he use any sort of reference material.

Instead, all the designs are original, bold, and exciting; focusing on the elements that make up Japanese-style snakes and dragons.

Further information about this tattoo book

Sören’s first book, Japanese Flora, sold out in record-breaking time; and it’s anticipated that this one will do the same. It’s definitely a must-have edition for tattoo book collectors. The book is A4 with a landscape orientation, which makes it easy to study the designs in turn. It has a durable hardcover and features a cloth-covered fold-out case. There are 152 pages of images inside.

Please note, this is a limited-edition book, and only 1,000 will be published in total.
